Hi my name is Elizabeth P, I am a senior at Tyrone high school. This was my first year in YAHL and I have to say it was awesome knowing that you are making a difference. This will be my first year on the leadership team and I absolutely loved it. I know that YAHL is making a difference in all of the communities of Oklahoma, and I am happy to know that I was able to help by being a part of the Elevate Student Health campaign.
The Elevate Student Health campaign is all about how important it is to have access to healthy options in school. This means healthy food and snacks, clean drinking water, and physical activities. A lot of schools across Oklahoma don't have access to clean water at their school so they are less likely to drink water. Even if your school has access to clean water and healthy snacks and or food, that doesn't mean that they can't make it a healthier and safer environment for you and your fellow classmates to thrive in.You can also help change your school for the better by changing policies.
I know you probably don't really care about your school policies, but if you just take a moment of your time to ask your principal what your wellness policy consists of you can find out if there is anything you can change. The policies show you what your school is doing to make sure your time in school is as good and as productive as they could possibly make it. By working with YAHL I have learned that the policy is more than just what you have for lunch, but more along the line of what students have access to. By supporting the changes that Elevate Student Health is trying to make, you are helping make Oklahoma a place where people want to live,
visit, and explore.
