Supporting Healthy Habits and Behaviors

My name is Cami, and I am in the 12th grade at Newkirk High School. I've been in YAHL for two years. I think that nutrition and physical activity are crucial components of a healthy lifestyle. Good nutrition provides the body with essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients to function properly, support growth and maintain a strong immune system. Eating a balanced diet can help manage weight; reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes and cancer; and promote overall health.

Physical activity complements nutrition by strengthening muscles and bones, increasing cardiovascular fitness, and boosting mental health. Regular exercise can help prevent obesity, improve mood and energy levels, and even enhance cognitive function. Together, nutrition and physical activity can lead to a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life. They are investments in your well-being that pay dividends in the form of increased vitality, longevity, and quality of life.

Others should care about comprehensive school wellness policies because they play a crucial role in promoting the health and well-being of students. These policies encompass various aspects of student health, including nutrition, physical activity and access to clean drinking water. By implementing comprehensive school wellness policies, schools create an environment that supports healthy habits and behaviors. This can lead to improved academic performance, reduced absenteeism and enhanced overall well-being among students. Additionally, these policies can help address and prevent issues such as childhood obesity, poor nutrition and lack of physical activity. By prioritizing the health of students, comprehensive school wellness policies contribute to creating a positive and nurturing educational environment.
